Each receptor contributes a different physiological effect. Activation of the GLP-1 receptor slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite signaling in the brain. GIP receptor activity influences insulin secretion and lipid handling, while glucagon receptor stimulation raises energy use and fat oxidation. Combining these pathways is intended to produce weight loss beyond what single- or dual-receptor agonists achieve. Researchers attribute the observed potency to simultaneous engagement of all three targets, though the exact contribution of each receptor to overall effect remains under investigation.
Clinical development has advanced through phase 2 trials in adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Reported phase 2 results described substantial average weight reduction over roughly forty-eight weeks of weekly dosing. A phase 3 program is ongoing to confirm efficacy and assess long-term safety. Because the compound has not received regulatory approval, it is not available as a prescription product. Public discussion of retatrutide often conflates trial findings with marketed status, an important distinction when interpreting coverage of the topic.
Several questions remain unresolved. It is not yet known whether the compound reduces cardiovascular events or mortality, because outcome studies require long follow-up. The durability of weight reduction after treatment withdrawal is uncertain, and rebound has been observed with other incretin-based therapies. Long-term safety data covering several years are limited. Effects in adolescents, in pregnancy, and in people with significant kidney or liver impairment have not been characterized in published reports.
Randomized studies of retatrutide measure change in body weight as a percentage of baseline, along with absolute weight loss. Glycemic endpoints include hemoglobin A1c and fasting plasma glucose. Investigators also track blood pressure, lipid fractions, and liver fat content to characterize effects beyond weight alone. Trial designs typically use double-blind, placebo-controlled groups with periodic dose escalation, and they record adverse events throughout both treatment and follow-up periods.
Quantification of the peptide in biological samples generally relies on liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. This approach separates the analyte from matrix components and detects it by mass-to-charge transitions specific to the molecule. Immunoassays offer higher throughput but can cross-react with related peptides and metabolites, so mass spectrometric methods are preferred when structural confirmation is required. Method validation typically addresses accuracy, precision, selectivity, and stability under handling conditions.

==== Thymoma-associated multiorgan autoimmunity ==== Thymoma-associated multiorgan autoimmunity can occur in people with thymoma. In this condition, the T cells developed in the thymus are directed against body tissues. This is because the malignant thymus cannot appropriately educate developing thymocytes to eliminate self-reactive T cells. The condition is virtually indistinguishable from graft versus host disease.
=== Sexual effects === From the available evidence, it seems men who have been circumcised with the aid of a circumcision device experience unchanged or heightened sexual pleasure and satisfaction. There is some evidence such men also derive long time improvements in erectile function. The accumulated data show circumcision has no adverse physiological effect on sexual pleasure, function, desire, or fertility. There is some evidence that circumcision has no effect on pain with intercourse, premature ejaculation, intravaginal ejaculation latency time, erectile dysfunction, or difficulties with orgasm. There are popular misconceptions that circumcision benefits or adversely affects the sexual pleasure of the circumcised person. According to a 2014 review, the effect of circumcision on sexual partners' experiences is unclear as it has not been well studied. According to a policy statement by the Canadian Paediatric Society that was reaffirmed in 2021, "medical studies do not support circumcision as having an impact on sexual function or satisfaction for partners of circumcised individuals".
After the end of the American Civil War, Chicago, Illinois emerged as a major railway center for the distribution of livestock raised on the Great Plains to Eastern markets. Transporting the animals to market from ranches in Texas required herds to be driven up to 1,200 miles (1,900 km) to railheads in Kansas City, Missouri or later to more westerly locations, such as Abilene, Kansas (1867, Kansas Pacific Railway) and Dodge City, Kansas (1872, Santa Fe Railroad), where they were loaded into specialized stock cars and transported live ("on-the-hoof") to regional processing centers. Driving cattle across the plains also caused tremendous weight loss, with some animals dying in transit. Upon arrival at the local processing facility, livestock were slaughtered by wholesalers and delivered fresh to nearby butcher shops for retail sale, smoked, or packed for shipment in barrels of salt. Costly inefficiencies were inherent in transporting live animals by rail, particularly the fact that approximately 60% of the animals' mass is inedible. The death of animals weakened by the long drive further increased the per-unit shipping cost. Meat processors sought a method to ship dressed meats from their Chicago packing plants to eastern markets.

=== Chipper teeth === Chipper chain invented by Joseph Cox improved dramatically on the performance of scratcher chain. Chipper used a tooth that was curled over the top of the chain, with alternate teeth pointing left and right. Ahead of the tooth was a depth gauge, which allowed for good clearance around the tooth for chip clearing while limiting the depth of cut and preventing grabbing or overloading. Chipper chains are sometimes used for dirty work, since their very large working corner allows the cutter to retain its effective sharpness for a long time in abrasive conditions.
== Journals == Cryobiology (publisher: Elsevier) is the foremost scientific publication in this area, with about 60 refereed contributions published each year. Articles concern any aspect of low-temperature biology and medicine (e.g. freezing, freeze-drying, hibernation, cold tolerance and adaptation, cryoprotective compounds, medical applications of reduced temperature, cryosurgery, hypothermia, and perfusion of organs). Cryo Letters is an independent UK-based rapid communication journal which publishes papers on the effects produced by low temperatures on a wide variety of biophysical and biological processes, or studies involving low-temperature techniques in the investigation of biological and ecological topics. ===== Tourism development ===== Paetongtarn Shinawatra has designated tourism as the primary engine for Thailand's economic growth, taking a hands-on role in policy-making and international promotion. Her administration's strategy focuses on elevating Thailand's global image, enhancing tourist safety, and boosting revenue by attracting high-value visitors and establishing the nation as a year-round destination. A key initiative under her leadership is the "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025", a year-long campaign of festivals and major sporting events designed to attract visitors. This campaign is part of the broader "Ignite Thailand" vision, which aims to establish the country as a global hub for tourism and other key industries. In early 2025, she personally promoted this vision at international travel forums, such as ITB Berlin, setting an ambitious target of attracting 39 million tourists and generating 3.5 trillion baht in revenue for the year. As of early June 2025, Thailand had welcomed over 15 million international visitors for the year, showing a strong recovery. However, some economic research centers have noted that the ambitious full-year targets may face challenges due to a global economic slowdown and increasing regional competition.
==== Emergent ==== An emergent plant is one which grows in water but pierces the surface so that it is partially exposed to air. Collectively, such plants are emergent vegetation. This habit may have developed because the leaves can photosynthesize more efficiently in air and competition from submerged plants but often, the main aerial feature is the flower and the related reproductive process. The emergent habit permits pollination by wind or by flying insects. There are many species of emergent plants, among them, the reed (Phragmites), Cyperus papyrus, Typha species, flowering rush and wild rice species. Some species, such as purple loosestrife, may grow in water as emergent plants but they are capable of flourishing in fens or simply in damp ground.
=== Diet === The coastal taipan's diet consists predominantly of rats, mice, and bandicoots, with various species of birds taken opportunistically. In 2010, a dead coastal taipan was found to have ingested a cane toad. Whether the snake had been poisoned by the toad and died, or had resisted the poison and been killed by a vehicle (as it was found on a road with neck trauma) was unknown. When hunting, it appears to actively scan for prey using its well-developed eyesight, and is often seen traveling with its head raised slightly above ground level. Once prey is detected, the snake "freezes" before hurling itself forward and issuing several quick bites. The prey is released and allowed to stagger away. This strategy minimises the snake's chance of being harmed in retaliation, particularly by rats, which can inflict lethal damage with their long incisors and claws. The coastal taipan closely resembles the African black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) in body shape, venom toxicity, and hunting behaviour—both employing a "snap and release" strategy. This convergence is thought due to their adaptation to hunting mammals; the large size is needed to eat large prey, and lethal venom is to immobilise prey quickly before they can damage the predator.

=== Tuberous sclerosis complex === Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder caused by mutations in the genes TSC1 and TSC2. TSC1 produces the protein hamartin. TSC2 produces the protein tuberin. This disorder presents with many benign hamartomatous tumors including angiofibromas, renal angiomyolipomas, and pulmonary lymphangiomyomatosis. Tuberin and hamartin inhibit the mTOR protein in normal cellular physiology. Inactivation of the TSC tumor suppressors causes an increase in mTOR activity. This leads to the activation of genes and the production of proteins that increase cell growth.

Retatrutide is an investigational peptide that activates the GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors at the same time. It is being studied for obesity and type 2 diabetes and has not been approved for clinical use. The internal code LY3437943 refers to the same molecule.
Most approved incretin therapies target one or two receptors, while retatrutide engages three. The addition of glucagon receptor activity is intended to raise energy expenditure. This broader mechanism is the subject of ongoing research rather than established practice.
No regulatory agency has approved retatrutide for any indication as of available public information. Development remains in later-stage trials. Availability claims found online should be treated as unverified.
Trials measure percentage change in body weight, absolute weight loss, and glycemic markers such as hemoglobin A1c. They also record blood pressure, lipids, and liver fat. Adverse events are tracked throughout.
